Red Mist Ramble

Red Mist Ramble; a marathon pub crawl

Following the success of last year’s fundraising for the Red Mist Runners in the Fleet Half Marathon, we’re at it again!

This year, the Red Mist Ramblers will be taking on a marathon pub crawl from The Queen’s Head in East Clandon, treking cross-country to The Stag on the River in Eashing. After a quick re-fuel by the river (and maybe a cheeky pint of Hog’s Back or two), they’ll set off again with The Wheatsheaf in Farnham as the final destination.

The teams will set out early on Saturday 21st May and will be raising money for another 2 fantastic charities: Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care and Disability Challengers. Any donation you can give will be greatly appreciated and will help these 2 charities continue to do the much-needed work that they do.

Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care

Phyllis Tuckwell is the only Hospice Care service for terminally ill adults and their families across the whole of West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire.

Every day they support over 250 patients, carers and relatives at the Hospice in Farnham, at the Beacon Centre in Guildford and in their own homes.

For many patients, when a cure is not possible, hospice care offers a more dignified and comfortable alternative to spending time in a hospital. Phyllis Tuckwell’s care helps patients manage pain and improves the quality of life for both the patient and their family.

The support offered by Phyllis Tuckwell has always been free of charge but we currently receive only 20% funding from the NHS/Government, and have to raise over £15,000 each day to provide their services.

A lot has changed over the years, but the one thing that has remained constant is our commitment to compassionate care and support ….. because every day is precious.

Disability Challengers

Playing, having fun and making friends is serious stuff and every child has the right to access challenging and exciting play opportunities. However, many children can’t or don’t feel able to access mainstream play and leisure opportunities – these are children with a range of emotional, behavioural, physical, social, learning and sensory impairments.

Not only does this hamper their social and cognitive development, it also places enormous strain on the family unit. The results are shown in evidence of considerable increased likelihood of parental separation and poverty.

Challengers is a registered children’s charity, established in 1979, dedicated to providing exciting and challenging play and leisure opportunities to disabled children and young people. They support any child or young person with any impairment through their Play, Youth and Young Adult schemes. They do this through their play and youth centres in Guildford and Farnham, and through a range of community based projects across Surrey and Hampshire.

A significant benefit of their services is providing families with short-breaks during high pressure times e.g. at the weekend or during the school holidays, enabling them to do ‘ordinary’ activities such as working or spending time with their other children.
